About Me

Robert Begey was born in 1975 to a middle-class family in Bristol, Connecticut. Once a flourishing factory town valued for its rolling landscapes and sense of community, Bristol came to resemble a deserted "Norman Rockwell" painting that hadn't aged very well. Unfortunately, within Bristol's small-town limits were small-time opportunities. Bob, however, had mentally designed plans on a much grander canvas quite different from his simple surroundings. Gliding up the education ladder, with little attention to grades and active involvement in any sport offered, Bob gained popularity with unabashed confidence and a creative, unwavering spirit. Spending much of his free time alone, he planned and later executed his escape from small-town America by enrolling at Central Connecticut University. Now at CCU, though only a millimeter outside Bristol on the map, Bob finally smelled freedom yet longed to taste it. Creativity was his outlet, his mark on what he could not touch. Thus, graphic design became his pursuit. In life, as taught through his art, Bob discovered only one thing remained constant – the ability to and the forcible nature of change. It was with this realization that his career path abruptly changed and he willingly accepted. A constant quest for physical challenges, second only to repeated attempts to conquer the psyche, led Bob to the adventures of billiards. With a cue in hand, acquired one sleepless night at Central, Bob dropped out of college and ventured into the pool enigma. Pulled by the undertow of the green felt ocean, Bob traveled from state to state with no hesitation, gathering and storing knowledge while consistently improving at his chosen sport. Dubbed the "LeRoy Neiman of table sports" by Sports Illustrated's Jon Wertheim, this Bristol native not only broke the mold; he crushed it then created his own, settling for nothing short of perfection. He also broke a few bank accounts, leaving a weeping trail of defeated players in his wake. However, while the game allowed him artistic expression and attaining freedom was no longer an issue, he dreamed of incorporating his experience onto a canvas. Thus, "Ambient Art" was born.

Bob started his developing empire a few short years ago and has already sold countless works to individual customers and business owners alike. With inherent knowledge of artistic skill, raw talent and familiarity with his subject matter; Bob's artwork appeals to the most discriminating critic. His use of color is impeccable, encompassing finely illustrated lines and delicate touches unique to the "Ambient Art" abstract style. To date, portraits have been based on, but are certainly not limited to, his experience in the billiard world. Such portrayals of the sport are universal yet unworldly, capable of improving wall space in any home or business. The magnitude of Robert Begey's "Ambient Art" cannot be measured; as with time, its possibilities are infinite.
